Scout Weekend – 2016

The month of February historically is a busy month for Scouting and Guiding. This is the month we celebrate the birthdays of our founders, Lord and Lady Baden-Powell of Gilwell. Both born on February 22.

Annual Family Potluck Dinner – Saturday February 20

This will be a family potluck dinner. Each family brings a main course casserole to feed 6-8 people. Please label the contents/name of casserole and indicate if there are any nuts or allergens in your casserole. Also put your name on the casserole dish and serving spoon and pick them up after the dinner. We will sit down for dinner at 6:00 so you can arrive any time after 5:30. There will be entertainment by the boys after dinner. We will have to conduct the business part of the Annual Meeting during this dinner as per Scouts Canada rules.

To help us with numbers (so we know how many drinks, deserts, etc to get), please register at  http://goo.gl/forms/yAr8DBNHbu

Sleepover – Saturday February 20 – After Dinner

As this is our 70th anniversary of the Scout group, we will be having a sleepover for Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers and Rovers.

We will have Board games and a movie maybe a indoor campfire.

Baden-Powell Church Service – February 21

The church service starts at 10:00. Boys meet at 9:30. We encourage all Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers, Rovers and leaders to attend this service in uniform as a thank you to the Church for the best meeting facility in the city.

Parents are encouraged to attend. Since the youth are at the church they can stay for the church service. Any members of the Girl Guides are also invited to attend in uniform.

Hope to see you all at the above events.

Volunteers Needed for Manure Sale

Preparations have begun for the 2015 Manure sale

March 28th – Edith Cavell School parking lot (500 West 20th Ave)

Please mark your calendars and plan to attend from 8am – 2pm March 28th
This is a fun event and our big fundraiser for the year.
Please volunteer for one of the following positions by sending me an email.
I will provide instructions for all of these positions:
-delivery drivers with trucks (we’ll provide a gas card)
-cashiers on the day
-someone to buy, deliver and coordinate snacks
-someone to buy and deliver the pizza
-someone to buy and pick-up the bags in Richmond in advance
-someone with a heavy duty power washer
-someone to coordinate the filling of bags
-someone to coordinate the counting of bags
-someone to plot the deliveries
…and lots of beavers, cubs, scouts, venturers, rovers and family and friends to help shovel and deliver on the day!
Please order your manure here:  https://46thchownscouts.com/soil/
In the past, several leaders and even parents have waited until the day with the idea of helping by buying the ‘extra’ manure.  We always sell out so it’s much more helpful if you order early so that we know how much to buy and please encourage your family, friends and neighbours to do the same.
thanks, Steph (Hawkeye)

Scouting Week – Potluck and Church Service

We celebrate our founders Lord and Lady Baden-Powell of Gilwell who shared the same birthday on February 22. We wrap up Scouting Week with a family dinner and church service, open to all members and families of the 46th Chown Scout group.

The annual family potluck dinner will be Saturday, February 21 at Chown United Memorial Church. Dinner will start at 6pm, followed by the (short) annual meeting and entertainment by the youth.

Please RSVP at http://goo.gl/forms/bx9Po3vSia

We are lucky to have a sponsor like Chown Memorial and Chinese United Church providing us with the best meeting facilities in Vancouver. By way of thanks we run a Scouts Own church service on Sunday February 22 at 10am and appreciate a good turnout by youth and parents.

We encourage all Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers, Rovers, and leaders to participate and meet at 9:30am in the church basement.

Yours in Scouting,

46th Chown Group Committee
